New Band. New Jams.

I’ve been talking about putting together a side project for what seems like forever. Well, as of last night this pipe dream has started to become a reality.

Keep your ear to the street. More info to come.

Crime In Stereo’s next full-length release, I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone, has been confirmed for release on February 23, 2010, on Bridge Nine Records. “This is by far our biggest accomplishment as a band,” says Alex Dunne, the band’s guitarist. “It’s not just our best record; it’s leaps and bounds beyond everything we’ve done previously. We’ve never been this excited to release a record and can’t wait for you to hear it.”

I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone was recorded this summer and fall with producer extraordinaire Mike Sapone (Brand New’s Daisy and The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, Crime In Stereo’s Is Dead). Hailed by fans as well as critics, Is Dead was called “The Shape of Hardcore to Come…some of the most ambitious, stunning songwriting melodic hardcore has witnessed in years” by Alternative Press, and was lauded by Big Cheese (UK) as “A great hardcore album? No, a great album, full stop.

Its funny that is announcement comes just days after my last post, which was in praise of their 2005 record, The Troubled Stateside.

I’m really excited to see how CIS has once again evolved their sound and songwriting. I am hoping that in sharing a practice space with Brand New, they have drawn some further influence from the band (which seemed like the case with …Is Dead, the B9 summer comp single “War”, and even some tracks from Selective Wreckage).

Hopefully Crime In Stereo will be showcasing some new tracks when they roll through Toronto in a couple of weeks with Brand New.

I saw this film earlier this week at a screening for the Ancaster Film Festival.

In terms of content, it didn’t teach me much more than what I already knew about the food industry, but it was a necessary reminder of many of the unfortunate and disturbing facts about the food we eat on a daily basis.

It was also the push I was looking for to give vegetarianism a fighting chance; an idea I have been toying with for the past couple of weeks.

The trailer as well as some other interesting information is available on the Food Inc website.

“Try Going Over The Pencil”

The recording for In Time’s new LP is almost complete.

Due to variety of circumstances, namely scheduling, the recording process for the LP has been stretched out over the last 7 or 8 months, but it is now in its final stages.

Ed and the rest of the guys in the band have been kind enough to have me into the studio a couple of times in the last month, once with Jesse when he was in to record guest vocals on one of the LP tracks, and again today to lend a voice for gang vocals.

Over that time I have been lucky enough to hear about 95% of their new record and what I have heard has certainly exceeded my expectations.

Hopefully this LP helps to turn some heads when it drops, because Die Trying, what I believe to be the magnum opus of the record, is seriously one of the best hardcore songs I have heard in the past couple of years.

Aside from getting to hang out and get a first listen at the new songs, I have also learned the benefit in trying to sing “overtop of the pencil”, and that it somehow helps to keep a bottle of maple syrup handy when recording.

The as yet untitled record should be out on vinyl LP format early 2010.

The Truth Will Reveal Itself is now available through Revhq.com

It feels good to finally have this record readily available and accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

As inconsequential as it may seem, having a 7” available through Revhq.com has been a major goal of mine as soon as RAH decided to progress beyond writing a demo, so it is definitely rewarding to have been a part of record that has made its way onto Rev.

Below is what REV had to say about it.

RAH continue to prove the strength of the Toronto, Canada hardcore scene, bringing this debut 7″ featuring eight songs worth of somewhat mid-tempo, no-frills hardcore punk that never shorts on anger or moshability, for fans of Rival Mob and Outbreak.

A big thank you is in order to Greg and Mike at LABELED for helping to make this record happen.
